The Urbane Arts Club
Current Exhibition: Sum of Light
Sum of Light is more than an exhibition—it is a beacon. In a world increasingly shaped by uncertainty, division, and isolation, this show stands as a luminous reminder that art remains our most vital form of hope, power, and human connection. Each piece on display—crafted by students and alumni of The Art Students League of New York—is a singular spark of imagination. Together, they illuminate something far greater: a collective brilliance as awe-inspiring and untamed as the Aurora Borealis.
Sum of Light invites us to slow down, to feel, and to remember our shared humanity. These works don’t just hang on walls—they reach across generations, backgrounds, and lived experiences to create a space where vulnerability becomes strength and vision becomes action. The Urbane Arts Club is deeply honored to host this vibrant collection, breathing new life into our century-old halls. Step in, and feel what happens when creativity becomes a force for unity, healing, and transformation.

José del Solar
El Desierto
Oil on masonite board
16 x 16”
2023
$1400
Painting for over 25 years, José del Solar is drawn by a sustained fascination with shape, line, and color. Though his visual language is representational, his approach is rooted in abstract sensibilities. Del Solar uses the recognizable not to imitate life, but to interrogate it — to examine structure, composition, and emotion with clarity and restraint. Del Solar approaches his still lifes and landscapes with the precision of a formal experiment, creating meditations on visual balance that serve as subtle metaphors for tension, violence, and human contradiction. Every subject is treated as a kind of portrait: even the most static arrangement is a study in character and temperament, infused with quiet humor and a fascination with our foibles, longings, and blind spots. Del Solar strives for beauty — not as ornament, but as a formal discipline — inseparable from structure, tension, and restraint. For him, it is a way of seeing, and perhaps, a way of understanding.
